Dr. Blayne M. Harris, MD

I wish I had done more research before booking an appointment, please read the reviews on Google because they are not shown here!! Here is MY Google review that I just posted: 
Dr. Harris showed immediate red flags that shouldn’t be ignored, although I do think he has potential to be a good psychiatrist. 
Read on for important things to consider before even making an initial consultation with him:
1. He is a one man show - he does not have a receptionist and therefore his communication is very poor. How could it not be? I don’t know how he thinks he can run a successful clinic while he acts as receptionist, accounting AND he’s the doctor.
2. He has terrible bedside manners. He asked me to source my own past medical records from my previous psychiatrist rather than obtaining them himself with a medical release consent form, which I did, only to tell me during the consultation he felt the records were “incomplete”, and not up to his personal standards. Meaning: they were COMPLETE medical records but he wanted “more history”. I asked him to elaborate and he said, and I quote “ideally my medical records from the past 10-15 years”,
again that I needed to source. What? How on earth am I supposed to go about doing that?  He then told me I needed to communicate a message to my previous psychiatrist about his dissatisfaction with the info in my medical records, rather than calling the doctor himself? Dude get a receptionist!! There are at least 3 other reviews on him that I now see where the patient states he was questioning their medical history, be sure you read those. 
3. He told me he drug tests “every couple of months”. Texas law requires drug testing 2x a year for controlled substances - not a problem. But HE requires and “prefers to drug test more often closer to every 2 months”. Again - the 2 state required tests are whatever, but I’m a full time working mom, and just to suffice you I have to drive to a lab every 2 months for a drug test? I’ll pass

The one pro I can say is that he seems like he would really take your opinion into consideration. That is - If he believes you aren’t a med-seeking crazy person who has crappy medical records. Sadly I was the latter to him. 

That being said, the absolutely ridiculous and frankly inappropriate requests he made around me sourcing my own medical records, questioning the accuracy of those records despite them having come directly from my previous doctor,  expecting me to be a middle man between him and another doctor, and unnecessary drug testing are huge red flags and as a result 

I am not going to tell the long drawn out story of why, let me just say this- He diagnosed me and prescribed me medication,  we rescheduled an appointment before the Thanksgiving holiday to make sure I had a refill available and when my ins changed unexpectedly to Meritain he flat out refused to see me. he didn't care to make a call, or verify  (as I had already done - because I work in health care, and I know better) that he was in fact in network- he just said no. No refill, no appointment, no cares whether I was in  good mental health or not.... So don't waist your time. He doesn't care 

Dr. Harris is an excellent psychiatrist. He does not just prescribe medicine, he takes the time to explain your options and come up with a plan together on how to proceed. I would recommend him to family and friends.
