Psychologists - Barrington, IL

"I was a client of Dr. Wiens for 7 months. I had faced many traumas in my life and was going through very intense psycho therapy with her. It had been extremely difficult to trust people, however, even though it was hard for me I had grown to trust her. My last appointment with her it was five minutes into the session when a knock came at the door and it was the paramedics. She had called them prior to my appointment and started the session like every other session. She had me admitted to a mental facility. I didn’t know what to expect and was terrified. She had them take me away and didn’t give me any support while I waited hours all alone in the emergency room waiting to be transported to a mental health facility. When I was finally transported I was stripped searched and for someone who has gone through the traumas I have it was a terrible experience. Especially, when I wasn’t briefed with what to expect by my therapist, Dr. Wiens. Then the following day I received a fax at the hospital from Dr. Wiens stating she was no longer my therapist. I was left all alone without any support. Yes, I was in a hospital, but she knew how hard it was for me to talk to anyone. She never followed up with the staff at the hospital with the exception of my case worker so she could send the fax. It caused an extreme traumatic event in my life. It caused me to be more suicidal than I ever have been. It caused me to never be able to trust anyone and to completely withdraw from life. I stopped going to church and engaging with anyone with the exception of very basic conversation. Church was a very important part of my life and I was very involved with my church. I am completely withdrawn from life. She stole my life from me. In the code of ethics abandonment is never okay. She was supposed to follow up with the doctors at the hospitals and did not. The doctor even said that it was terrible and she shouldn’t have done what she did in the way she did it. She should have provided support. The trauma she created for me could have been something that could have helped if she would have handled it in a professional way. She was also supposed to provide a final closure session and her office wouldn’t even talk to me. In fact they were extremely cold towards me. They would never return calls and only respond in emails. It caused unrest and spiraling. The only time that you are not supposed to be granted a closure session is when you propose a threat. That was not the case in my situation. I wanted to harm myself, but never did I propose a threat or was I violent in any way. Dr. Wiens stole my life from me. I will never be able to trust anyone or if I need to reach out for help to someone I won’t be able to. She didn’t think it through. She tricked me and was not honest and it caused the worst trauma of a life full of them. "
