Ophthalmologists - Sandy Springs, GA

"Selected this ophthalmologist for my cataract surgery. With cataract surgery, complications can occur later, but at this point, 4 weeks in, I am very pleased with the results. He got the replacement lens selected perfectly giving me 20/20 distant vision in that eye. That is great! Also, the little things about Dr Brody and his office are worth mentioning. He has a very nice manner with his patients. I learned that he actually invented one of the tools that is used to insert the new lens. Somehow he has access to a discount pharmacy that sold me the recommended eye drops at a considerably better price than going through my insurance or even GoodRx. And his staff was very pleasant to deal with. "

"I first saw Dr. Sackel at his listed Smyrna location, but it turns out he just does some consulting (?) there and they don't have the equipment needed to do the necessary tests for much of anything more serious than new glasses. When he came in to talk to me, it became clear that he hadn't reviewed any of my intake documentation to see what I was there for. He asked, "Here for new glasses today?" when in fact I was there for an ongoing and persistent issue that causes 30-minute periods of blindness at least once a week. After going through the results of the tests they were able to do--he couldn't have talked for more than 60 seconds, truly--he kept acting like he was getting up to leave and I had to keep stopping him to get him to answer questions I had about what was going on and what I could do moving forward. He seems knowledgeable, but I got the feeling he thought I was wasting his time. Thinking maybe it was just the location / lack of machinery causing the issue, I agreed to schedule another appointment for about a month later, at his Sandy Springs office. The staff did a great job of performing the tests I needed, then I waited alone in an exam room for 45 minutes before he came in. Again, he had not reviewed why I was there and simply told me everything "look[ed] good," forgetting that if my eye health wasn't the issue then I needed a neurologist referral. Instead of just giving me that referral, he told me I should see my PCP to get one. If I hadn't prepared myself ahead of time to push back and advocate for myself, my meeker version probably would have just agreed. But I knew what I needed and I knew he could give it to me, so I pushed for the referral and finally got one. I have no concerns about whether he knows what he's talking about--he seems plenty knowledgeable--but I don't feel like he understood or listened to what my issues were at all. After months of dealing with major vision disruptions, both of these appointments were really disappointing, frustrating, and upsetting."

"I experienced the worst physician care I’ve ever experienced in my life. Dr Yoder came into the room and asked me “So, what’s the plan”? I then expressed that I hoped she could tel me. I then preceded to inquire about the surgery and what I can expect including some of my concerns. It was at this point the Dr Yoder left the room and within earshot told a colleague “I’m not operating on this dude” Despite my calmness, she became emotionally unhinged. Do not put your eye care in her care. "
