Dr Metz wasn’t actually our Dr, he just had the misfortune of being the pediatrician on-site when we went in for our post partum check up. My son was born with a bang of sorts and spent 3 days in the NICU and then we got to go home for 20 hours. At our app the lactation specialist didn’t like the way my son was breathing and called Dr Metz in. I can’t imagine being in the position of having to tell two people who I’d never met before their child wasn’t going home with them that night, but he managed to do it with an incredible amount of grace and compassion. The even more amazing thing to us was that he didn’t forget about our baby, where most Dr’s would have moved on, he frequently checked in on our baby over the next several weeks until he was stable. As it turned out, my son had a large VSD that was causing fluid on his lungs and was impairing his ability to breath. Where every other Dr let us leave and intended to send us home Dr Metz continued to keep the best interest of my child in our front and center. I have no doubt that it’s because of Dr Metz that my baby lived and I can’t thank him enough.
