Perinatologists - Reston, VA

"I just wanted to share my experience with Dr. Marquis Latrell Jessie and hopefully prevent other moms-to-be from what I had to go through. It is a long review, but please read it and hopefully it will help you to make a decision and go see another doctor. I went to his office to do my 1st trimester scan, after reviewing my folder he noticed that I am a carrier for one of the genetic diseases. I was aware of this condition and spoke with certified genetic counselor who informed me that with this condition my baby will have 50% chance to be a carrier and be normal, just like I am. There is 0% chance that the baby will have the disease. Dr Jessie, however, assured me that I was provided the incorrect information and that there is 50% chance my baby will be affected by the disease. He also told me that I should do the testing to find out the sex of the baby and if it is a boy I may need to terminate the baby! I did the necessary blood work as he suggested (he draw my blood himself and did not put any gloves on – it was my first time in medical facility this happened to me). I went to see a different genetic counselor as well to get a different opinion and sure enough they confirmed that there is no risk for the baby to get the disease. Dr. Jessie was completely unknowledgeable about this subject but he made me believe otherwise. I went through such a stress, tears and fear of losing my baby while waiting for genetic counselor appointment. Great news for me – it is in the past and my baby will be ok, doesn’t matter what sex it is! Couple of weeks later I have received a bill for $2,700 from testing facility Dr. Jessie sent my results to. As turned out they do not except my insurance policy and I would have to pay out of pocket. When I called Dr. Jessie`s office, I was told that whatever charge I got is between me and the lab facility. Also, I was told that they do not verify insurance information before sending the blood out and that the test that was done to me was my own decision and I had a right to refuse. I explained to Brenda, the person I spoke to, that I based my decision upon the information that Dr. Jessie provided me with, which was completely incorrect. On which she responded that she cannot really discuss with me the professionalism and skills of the doctor…. So I had to let it all go. I had the worst experience in that office. Dr. Jessie is the most unprofessional and unknowledgeable doctor I have ever dealt with. I still cannot believe that he told a pregnant woman that she may need to terminate the baby WITHOUT HAVING ANY CLUE WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT, just so he can charge more money to the insurance company. I hope that this review will help to make other patients decision to STAY AWAY FROM DR. MARQUIS JESSIE AND HIS OFFICE. I just wish I have read other reviews online before going there. "

"DO NOT VISIT THIS PRACTICE. I had a HORRIBLE first experience. Appointment was made for 1/31 at 1:45pm after calling 3 separate times and leaving a voicemail and speaking to Patty who said she would call me back over the course of 3 days but never did and I had to keep hunting her down for an appointment. I should have taken that as a sign and gone to a different practice immediately. Patty finally called me 3 days later to schedule an appointment. Then, the next day she called again because she didn’t realize she’d already scheduled me for one! I told Patty, I already scheduled an appointment and confirmed the date and time. I was told to come 10 minutes early to fill out paperwork. Arrived at 1:35pm to fill out paperwork and finally at 2:15 PM Patty came out to tell me that my appointment was scheduled for the next day. After explaining to her, that was not the case, and that we spoke on 2 different occasions and confirmed the date and time, she finally agreed to let me be seen. Upon going into a patient room I asked Patty if she had double booked us or what happened because the woman sitting next to me in the waiting area told me that her appointment was at 1:30 PM. Patty got in my face and clapped, yes, unprofessionally CLAPPED her hands in my face and said the following words at me about another patient, “THAT WOMAN CAME IN LATE!!” Mind you I came in at 1:35 so there’s no way this woman could’ve been running more than five minutes late for her appointment. Also, why is this medical professional complaining to me about other patients instead of simply apologizing for booking me on the wrong date and/or time?? After Patty finished with me, then the ultrasound tech scanned me and said the doctor would come in to discuss the results. Dr. Rodney McLaren came in and instead of discussing the results, he wanted to talk about Patty and why I was upset. I explained what happened to Dr. McLaren about Patty booking me for the wrong date and time, how she was clapping in my face and complaining about another patient at me, and how completely unprofessional she was acting. Instead of simply apologizing on her behalf McLaren OR JUST MOVING ON and talking about my scans, he started defending her, telling me how hard her job was, and telling me I was in the wrong. When I told him that a simple apology from him or Patty for the incorrect booking would have resolved everything he stormed out of the room completely unprompted without another word. I am SPEECHLESS at how highly incompetent, unprofessional, and extremely disorganized this practice is. I honestly don’t even understand how they are still in business. If you care about the well-being of your unborn baby, PLEASE go elsewhere."
