"I had been having trouble swallowing and had seen another doctor in 2021. I had done an endoscopy then, with no conclusive results. On my first visit to Dr Hartman, he diagnosed Achalasia. This is a rare issue, affecting about 1 in 100,000 per year. We did further, more specific testing called Manometry. This confirmed Dr. Hartman's diagnosis and we then discussed options. When I elected surgery, Dr. Hartman had me in front of a thoracic surgeon shortly thereafter. Surgery was successful. I now swallow my food without difficulty. A great result, with Dr. Hartman showing the way forward. "

What is Hepatology?

Hepatology is the study of the liver and its diseases. Outcomes for liver patients tend to be better with a hepatologist than a gastroenterologist. However, hepatologists can be difficult to find outside of larger cities. This may change in the future as more patients seek the specialized care that hepatologists can provide.
