CMS to release new data
April 05, 2014
Last year, CMS explored the idea of releasing data from the Medicare claims database (noted earlier). This week, they announced the next step. The information is to include data on "6,000 different types of services and procedures provided, as well as payments received by individual health care providers."
This is a very exciting step for people pushing for transparency in the health care industry. After a few decades of a legal injunction barring the release of the data, CMS is now starting the process. Noted further down in the announcement is CMS's budgeting to further health care pricing transparency. We look forward to integrating additional data to help consumers select an appropriate health care provider.
