I'd been looking for a new psychologist for a while and I finally came to see Dr. Marmaras. From the beginning, she seemed genuinely interested in helping me and listening to what I had to say. She gives me book suggestions, sends me helpful links to articles and videos that may be helpful or I might find interesting for my particular issues, and she always asks for ways in which she could improve how helpful she is. It's important for someone to feel comfortable in order to open up about their problems and struggles, and she always does her best to be present and understanding. I'm very grateful to have found her!
I've been seeing Dr. Marmaras for over 6 months now and it's been transformational. I've grown emotionally by better understanding my inner self and how I relate to others and my past. It is a journey (and not a quick fix) and I only wish I had started my work with Dr. Marmaras years ago. I truly believe my relationships with partners, my parents, and myself would have been so much healthier. I started off with once a week and have found my sessions so helpful that I have increased the frequency to four times a week. Dr. Marmaras is quick to identify my blind spots yet patient but focused in working with me to help me understand the underlying issue and shift to being in an empowered and healthier place. I find her very effective and it works for me -- I'm blessed to have found her!
I have never posted anything on Yelp, Google, etc but I feel a moral obligation to tell others about my experience with Dr. Marmaras. After setting up an initial appointment with Dr. Marmaras, she spent the better part of an hour asking me questions about myself and understanding the recent experiences in my personal and professional life that was causing me a lot of angst. As I was answering her, I started to tear up and cry. Even though I was visibly upset, she said, "I'm not sure why you are crying. What you said wasn't particularly sad." I was so shocked, I left immediately for the bathroom and never came back. Shock then turned into anger and finally settled into disbelief. Stay away!
