"Dr. Duffy did my major lumbar surgery and later a cervical surgery. I had suffered for years in pain and was terrified of surgery and who to use. After seeing at least five doctors, I picked him. Since the surgery now 1 year....I am doing so well. He gave me back my life ! He does not push surgery if it is not needed. Him, his staff and Jeremy are all awesome. I would highly recommend him to anyone. "

"The front office staff failed to email the new patient forms prior to the appointment. I contacted them the day of to inform them of this and was told to come in anyways and complete it there. When I arrived, I was told my appointment would be canceled because I didn't have the proper forms completed. I made sure they were aware of the mis information, yet they still sent me away and offered another appointment 3 weeks later. They they said the information would be mailed out and should be completed. They didn't even have the capability to give a paper copy, don't know I would trust them with a body part if they can't print a packet. Staff should be re-trained and streamlined."

"Dr. Stewart had to rebuild my hammertoes and bunion foot. I was in constant pain. My foot was a hot mess. I was very pleased with the surgery and my return to a quality of life. I’m back now five years later to have my other foot done. He is redoing what another surgeon did poorly. I read some of the other reviews and felt compelled to say it was not my experience."

"My husband went to Dr. Hopkins in November 2018 for left knee pain. He was told it probably was a pulled muscle and it would heal. After 2 months, still in lots of pain so we went back. Finally the doctor ordered a MRI. Insurance denied it but they never called us back, let us know anything or sent in a letter of reconsideration. After me having to call the insurance and then tell them what they needed to do (they should have known), they sent the letter. It was finally approved & we went for MRI a week ago. We still have not heard anything back from the doctor. I called everyday for 3 straight days & still no phone call. When I finally got through today, I was told they had to schedule him an appointment and wouldn't give results over the phone. Why wasn't I told this a week ago!!! We have been fooling with this doctor since November and now it is March & he still has no relief or answers. Told them to pull our records & we're going to go to another doctor! Should have done it 2 months ago! Don't waste your time with this one!"

What is Orthopedic Surgery?

Orthopedic surgeons, sometimes just called orthopedists, are surgical doctors of the musculoskeletal system. They work to keep your body active and in motion by treating problems with your bones, joints, tendons and muscles. The most frequently treated disorder seen by orthopedic surgeons is osteoarthritis, a common 'wear-and-tear' problem where the cartilage that cushions the ends of the bones wears down, causing friction and pain. Orthopedic surgeons might also see patients for bone and joint deformities, amputation, infections of the bone and joint, overuse injuries, or nerve compression.

Orthopedic surgeons can order tests such as blood work and x-rays to get a clearer picture of the issue. Depending on the illness or injury, more than one different form of treatment may be used. Treatment may include:

  • Surgery, such as fusing bones together to increase stability, or replacing a joint
  • Medication, such as pain medication or steroids to promote healing
  • Casts, splints, or orthotics (devices such as braces or shoe inserts to support the body)
  • Physical therapy, a kind of treatment using exercise, stretching, heat, and massage to heal the body
  • Exercise, stretching, movement, and use of the affected part

Orthopedic surgeons also work to prevent injuries and slow the progression of disease in their patients. They educate patients on ways to prevent future injuries, and they treat illness in order to prevent further damage to bones or joints that may be affected by disease. The goal of an orthopedic surgeon is to help their patients restore movement and regain an active life.
