What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a treatment that uses gentle abrasion to remove the old, uneven, dull outer layer of skin on the face, neck, or hands. It may also thicken collagen in underlying tissue, giving skin a tighter and smoother appearance. Microdermabrasion may use crystals blown across the skin or a type of diamond-tipped wand to remove the dead skin. It is an effective treatment for scars, sun damage, wrinkles, blackheads, and age spots. In the days following a treatment, it is important to protect the skin from sun or other damage. Professional microdermabrasion is a more significant procedure than exfoliation performed at home and should only be done by a properly trained professional.
